![]() A Guide to the Department of Sociology Oral History Collection, 2019
Historical NoteThese oral histories were conducted by graduate students in the Spring 2019 semester of the Qualitative Research Methods (SOC 5033) course taught by Dr. John P. Bartkowski. The class examined the epistemological assumptions of social research, and compared the positivist perspective with qualitative approaches. The students considered various qualitative research methodologies, including ethnography, interviewing, textual analysis, and online research, with attention to the logic and application of each method. The course concluded by having students design a qualitative research project that demonstrated mastery of course content. These ten oral history interviews were conducted by six students as their qualitative research projects. The students interviewed San Antonio residents about their views related to the city’s culture, growth, transportation, gentrification, education, and Fiesta. Sources:
