Randall Sherman and Frank Bara formed BaraSher Publishing Company and published the Marquise from February 1992 though December 1992. In January 1993, Ted Switzer joined Randall Sherman as a publisher for the serial and beginning in January 1996, Switzer was the sole publisher of the Marquise.

The Marquise was one of San Antonio's LGBTQ publications during the 1990s. The serial was published from February 1992 through October 1997. The publication covered news stories from coast to coast and often featured headlines from abroad in its "International News Roundup." Local happenings were reported by Gene Elder, contributing writer and Archivist at the Happy Foundation Archives. The Marquise tackled issues important to the city's LGBTQ community: gay marriage, lesbians and gays in the military, hate crimes, queer parenting, AIDS, and anti-gay legislation.
The collection includes scans of published issues and scans of paste-ups which were pre-production proofs of the serial. Photographs in the collection were often used in the publication. Some photographs depict events after the Marquise ceased publication.
Material in this collection has been digitized and is available in our digital collections.
