![]() A Guide to the Marian Martinello Papers, 1956-2014
Biographical NoteMarian Martinello (1935-2015) was a professor emeritus as well as creator and chair of the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Born in New York City in 1935, Martinello graduated from Queen’s College and Columbia University. Her academic work concentrated on developing interdisciplinary curricula and teaching, learning through research, and historical inquiry. In addition to her scholarly works, which include the books Interdisciplinary Inquiry in Teaching and Learning with Gillian E. Cook (Merrill, 2000) and Pathways for Inquiry(Alliance Press, 2002), Martinello wrote several novels for children and young adults, including Cedar Fever: A Novel (Corona Publishing, 1992) andChili Queen: Mi historia by Guadalupe Perez: A Novel (TCU Press, 2015). Marian Martinello joined UTSA in 1975; her career as a full-time faculty member lasted until her retirement in 2000. She later returned to the university to serve briefly as Associate Dean for Research. During her tenure at UTSA, she was the recipient of grants for projects such as the creation of the Comprehensive Regional Science Center for Minorities; served as co-creator and project director for Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program (TexPREP); and Project MECCA, also known as the Minority Education Collaborative for Children and Adults, which won an award from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
