This Austin-based, non-profit organization promotes the production of affordable fine art through a type of screen printing called serigraphy. The organizers provide one to two weeks of free housing, serigraphy instruction, and use of serigraphy equipment for ten to fifteen artists per year. The project provides materials and equipment for each artist to create fifty copies of a single print. The Serie Project was founded by printmaker Sam Coronado in 1993, and takes place at Coronado Studio in Austin, Texas. Sam Coronado passed away in November 2013, but his wife, Jill Ramirez, works to continue the program.
Two-thirds of the artists accepted to the program are of Latin American decent, and one-third are of other ethnicities. Thirty percent of accepted applicants are from the Austin area, thirty percent are from other regions of Texas, and thirty percent are from other regions of the United States. Ten percent of accepted applicants are from Latin American countries.
For more information, see the Serie Print Project website.
