Mary Carolyn Hollers George is a writer and architectural historian. A native of San Antonio, Texas, she was born on June 5, 1930, and attended Thomas Jefferson High School. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Art from Mary Baldwin College in Virginia in 1951 and a Master's Degree in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970. She is a member of the Texas Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians and has taught courses on the history of art and art appreciation at San Antonio College in the Alamo Community College District.
Ms. George is married to architect W. Eugene George, who has assisted her as photographer and designer for some of her books. With her previous husband Robert M.T. Jutson, she had two sons Robert M.T. Jutson, Jr. and Scott Hollers Jutson.
George's published works focus on architectural history in Texas especially in and around San Antonio and Mexico. These works include the book O'Neil Ford: Architect, a biography of the well-known San Antonio architect and conservationist, and Mary Bonner: Impressions of a Printmaker. She also completed two books about the architect Alfred Giles: Alfred Giles: An English Architect in Texas and Mexico was published in 1972 and The Architectural Legacy of Alfred Giles: Selected Restorations was published in 2006. Ms. George compiled and edited content for Master Builder of the Lower Rio Grande: Heinrich Portscheller, which was written by W. Eugene George and was published in 2016.
Ms. George also conducted research concerning the Koehler Family, founders of the Pearl Brewery, in San Antonio and their home now called the Koehler Cultural Center as well as the Anglo-Texan Society. The Anglo-Texan Society was founded in London by men with Texas connections. Among the groups members were O'Neil Ford and Alfred Bossom, the architect who designed the Magnolia building in Dallas and several other buildings in Texas.

O'Neil Ford |
|
This is the largest series and it contains research for the 1992 book O’Neil Ford Architect. O'Neil Ford (1905-1982), a skilled architect and conservationist from San Antonio, Texas, worked on the restoration of La Villita and Phase I of the main campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio. This series consists of George’s research notes, interview audio tapes and interview transcripts. The research notes include information on many of buildings Ford designed. Also included are biographical information, awards and honors, correspondence, negatives, photographs and proofs. Ms. George interviewed many of Ford's friends, clients, and business partners as part of her research. In her research of Ford's family, Ms. George kept some information taken from the 1840 census and other material from the 19th century. The audio tapes and the transcripts of the interviews about Ford are labeled according to the interviewee. |

Research Projects |
|
The third series, Research Projects, consists of research materials of other subjects. Ms. George collected notes and correspondence that detail the history of the Anglo-Texan Society, which was founded in London in 1953 by a group of men with Texas connections. Members included O'Neil Ford and Alfred Blossom, architect and Member of Parliament. George researched research the history of the Otto Koehler family and house for the 1993 video production, The Future of the Past: the Koehler Cultural Center. Items from this project include a script, research materials, and a video recording of the production, which was narrated in part by Margaret Bosshardt Pace Wilson, a great niece of the Koehler's. Materials documenting San Antonio Transportation History round out the series. For further information on San Antonio transportation, researchers are directed to The John Kight Transportation Collection (MS 26). |

The majority of the research materials in the Alfred Giles series consist of reproductions of photographs, drawings, blueprints, negatives, slides, reports, correspondence and notes on Giles and Giles and Company Architects. Giles worked as an architect in Texas and Mexico in the late 1800's through the early 1900's. The series is organized by the type of structure or environment Giles was designing, including mansions, courthouses, commercial properties, and city planning. Of note is information about the buildings he designed for Fort Sam Houston and about the designs and structures done in Mexico. Materials documenting the restoration of the Carl Groos house are also available in this collection. This series contains information on Alfred Giles' life and family, including a copy of a diary kept by the wife of Alfred Giles, Laura Giles. |
