![]() Guide to the Legal Eagles, Eagle Exes - Law School Football Team History and Correspondence, 1955-1997
Historical BackgroundThe Legal Eagles were formed in 1955 as the Law School’s intramural football team, headed by then twenty-eight year old law professor Charles Alan Wright. Over his forty-year engagement as head coach and eventually as Athletic Director in 1991, the Legal Eagles gained an impressive winning record with 330 wins, 44 losses, and 5 ties. Wright’s Legal Eagles were also frequent victors of the Grad-Law Division Championships and All-University Championships. Since the death of Charles Alan Wright in 2000, adjunct Professor Brian Rider has served as the Athletic Director of the Legal Eagles. The first Eagle Exes team was formed in 1956, composed of former Legal Eagles team members eager to engage the standing Legal Eagles team in a post-season match. The Eagle Exes annually face the Legal Eagles during the Beer Bowl, vying for the William F. Young, Jr. Memorial Trophy. The tradition of the yearly show-down between the Eagles and the Exes continues today.
