Brief Biographical Sketch

Photographer Carolyn Brown has worked in Texas, Mexico, Central America, and the Middle East, and has exhibited extensively in Texas, across the U.S., and internationally. She is the author of Dallas: Portrait of a City (Lightwave, 2014), among other publications. She has an MA from Texas Woman's University and studied at American University in Cairo.

Scope and Contents Note

Originally delivered on a hard drive, this collection of over 100 digital photographs of churches in Mexico and other scenes from Mexico and Central America is now stored on the Benson Latin American Collection's digital server. To access these files please contact Benson Special Collections at bensonspecialcollections@austin.utexas.edu

12 of these photographs were exhibited as part of Inside the Baroque: The Legacy of Mexican Viceregal Arts and Culture, an exhibition held at the Benson Latin American Collection featuring photographs by Carolyn Brown and a documentary film by Quin Matthews. This exhibition was on display from September 11, 2014-January 31, 2015. These 12 prints are described below and available to view in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Reading Room. They are arranged alphabetically by Mexican state or city.
