Biographical Sketch

Poet, playwright, novelist, and journalist. Born Oct. 15, 1947, in Chicago, Ill. Received B.A. from Univ. of Texas, El Paso ‪(‬1975‪)‬, M.F.A. from Univ. of California, San Diego ‪(‬1979‪)‬, and Ph.D. from Univ. of Texas at Austin ‪(‬1987‪)‬. Several of this well-known Mexican American playwright's works have been published, and both his published and unpublished works are frequently produced. Among his best-known plays are The many deaths of Danny Rosales, El jardín, and Johnny Tenorio. Has taught at the university level since 1979.

Scope and Contents Note

Consists of plays and essays by Carlos Morton, the bulk of which date from 1979 to 1984, along with materials relating to his plays. Among the play titles included in the collection are Rancho Hollywood,Johnny Tenorio,Espíritu, and La malinche. Extensive research materials on the murder of Richard Morales ‪(‬on which the play The Many Deaths of Danny Rosales was based‪)‬ are also included. Also included are programs, posters, and articles about Morton's work.
