Biographical Sketch

Mexican American family which has operated several businesses in Austin, Texas, since the 1930s. Tomás Galindo, Sr., operated a tortilla factory and gift shop, and was also active in mutual aid societies.

Scope and Contents Note

Collection consists of four photographs from the 1940's, one crocheted fringe with a bird motif from the 19th-century, and two pamphlets containing the rules of two mutual aid societies: Sociedad de la Unión, and Sociedad Funeraria de Agricultores ?"?Mariano Escobedo?"?. A decorated silk standard for the Sociedad Funeraria de Agricultores ?"?Mariano Escobedo?"? is also included. Photographs show the Galindo family, friends, and business. The crocheted piece is said to have been made by Juanita Cruz Treviño.

Organized in two series: 1. Family photographs and memorabilia and 2. Mutual aid societies.
