Simeon Chaney and S. Schutz & Bro. Company Contract, 1874
Simeon Chaney was chosen as post trader for Fort Davis, a frontier military post in Texas, by Secretary of War William Belknap in October 1870. Chaney's tenure as post trader was marked by his frequent disappearances and shirked duties, which led to many disgruntled customers. As such, the S. Schutz & Bro. Company from El Paso was selected to fill Chaney's place as post trader in 1874. They were later replaced by Chaney's brother, A. W. Chaney.
