Biographical Note

Madeline Mason Manheim McKesson (1908-1990), who also wrote under the pen name Tyler Mason, was the daughter of Jacob and Maude Fredrika Mason Manheim, the wife of artist Malcolm McKesson, and a renowned poet from an early age. She invented the American or Mason sonnet. The Mason sonnett is considered unique because of it's use of an octave and a sestet, along with its metered, iambic pentameter, and rhyme pattern, that is composed with a pivot developed after the octave.
