Scope and Contents

Correspondence, muster rolls, camp rosters, lists, and financial and printed material relate to the activities of the Texas Division of the United Confederate Veterans. The records document the activities and attitudes of group members, especially the leaders, Henry B. Askew, Lawrence Sullivan (Sul) Ross, and H. B. Stoddard. The records include some correspondence with Felix Huston Robertson, the only Texas-born Confederate general. Also included is information about the organization's lobbying efforts, spearheaded by George W. Littlefield, to assure a sympathetic presentation of the Confederate cause in history books used by Texas school children in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
