The first message from CINPAC (US Commander in Chief Pacific) to "ALL SHIPS AND STATIONS AT PEARL" read "AIRRAID ON PEARL X THIS IS NO DRILL." The following CINPAC message read "HOSTILITIES WITH JAPAN COMMENCED WITH AIRRAID ON PEARL."
