Biographical Note

Charles M. Neal, Jr., taught Texas and American history in the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas, for 25 years. His father, Charles M. Neal, Sr., served as a mounted rifleman in the First Cavalry Division at Fort Clark, a calvary post near Brackettville, Texas. Neal, Sr., inspired his son's interest in the frontier U.S. Army. Neal holds history degrees from Southwest Texas State University and Sam Houston State University. He is a member of the Medal of Honor Historical Society.

The Charles M. Neal, Jr., collection comprises research materials, books, drafts, and correspondence related to Neal's writing of Valor Across the Lone Star: The Congressional Medal of Honor in Frontier Texas.
