Biographical Note

Ray A. Stephens was a farmer who enlisted in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, serving in Mississippi. He was discharged in 1862. His family relocated to Ranger, Texas, in 1890, where he and his wife, P.D. Stephens, lived for the rest of their lives.

The Ray A. Stephens papers consist of 11 items, including paperwork relating to his military discharge, as well as receipts documenting taxes paid or items purchased on his behalf in the late 1800s. Finally, there is a card from Stephen's wife, P.D., documenting their move to Ranger, Texas. The card is addressed to J. Evetts Haley.
