Snyder received his B.A and M.A. degrees in classical Greek from Boston College. He also earned bachelor and master's degrees from Hebrew Teachers College, studying Aramaic and Hebrew languages, as well as biblical and Talmudic studies. He received a degree in library sciences from Drexel University.

While at UT Libraries, Snyder helped develop its Judaica collection; his acquisitions included a rare copy of the Torah from Czechoslovakia.
