A Guide to the Ione Spears Items, 1922-1929, undated
Ione Petty Spears (1889-1963) was hired to be the first full-time law librarian for the UT Law Department in 1916. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from UT in 1909 and as a student was active in the YWCA and the Choral Club. Under Miss Spears' direction, the law library grew from 10,000 volumes in 1916 to 23,000 by 1923. She left her position in 1923 to teach in the History Department. She also served as faculty sponsor of Pi Lambda Theta, an honorary education fraternity, and as the Grand Dean of the Texas Chapter of Kappa Beta Pi legal sorority.
The Ione Spears Items, 1922-1929, undated, contain programs, printed material, notes, and lyrics pertaining to special events and meetings of the YWCA, Pi Lambda Theta, and Kappa Beta Pi.
