Historical Note

The Vietnam War was a contentious military conflict between North and South Vietnam, which would eventually lead to heavy involvement from the United States between 1965-1973. This was an extremely divisive battle, with many Americans protesting the U.S.’s involvement.

With over 58,000 deaths and another 350,000 casualties, many survivors returned to the states only to be greeted with a lack of public and institutional support. Ex-soldiers sought assistance, relief and comfort at Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Hospitals, where care is provided for vets.

Whitney Miller was a social worker at a VA Hospital in Texas, and amassed a collection of literature donated to her from different veterans who were under the care of the hospital.
