A Guide to the Margaret Lynn Lewis Diary, 1730-ca. 1800
Margaret Lynn Lewis was one of the first European settlers of Augusta County, Virginia, together with her husband John Lewis. In 1732, they arrived into the then wilds of the Shenandoah Valley, where they established with their family.
The Margaret Lynn Lewis Diary, 1730-ca. 1800, is a typescript of a manuscript diary relating to first settlers in Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. The typescript includes excerpts of the manuscript diary and a letter addressed to the University of Texas Archives in 1927 from the Virginia State Library stating the curious circumstances of the diary, that appeared published for the first time in the Southern Historical Magazine for May 1892 under the title “The Valley Manuscript”.
