![]() A Guide to the Wolfe, William G., Collection, 1968, 1991
Biographical NoteBorn in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on June 23, 1917, Dr. William G. Wolfe was a professor emeritus of special education. He joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin in 1949, where he served as chairman of both the Department of Special Education and the Department of Educational Psychology. Professor Wolfe was also affiliated with numerous special education organizations. He was a fellow with the American Speech and Hearing Association, served as president and chairman of the United Cerebral Palsy of Texas Association and was a member of the Commission on Education of Exceptional Children. The “Handicapped Children’s Early Education Assistance Act” (PL 90-538), which authorizes experimental programs for handicapped children of pre-school age, was signed by President Lyndon Johnson on September 30, 1968, becoming a landmark law for special education in the U.S. Sources: “In memoriam William G. Wolfe Collection, 1968, 1991, is comprised of an autographed presentation copy of the Public Law 90-538 document from President Lyndon B. Johnson to Bill Wolfe, and a clipping of the Texana column by Mike Cox covering presidential authographs current value. The clipping reveals the high market value of a letter signed by Lyndon B. Johnson. The collection also includes a ballpoint ink pen that the President used to sign the above legislation.
