A Guide to the "Inventing the West" Videotape, 1984
The Inventing the West Videotape, consists of one VHS videocassette, approximately 1 hour and 49 minutes long. It contains a videorecording of a September 14, 1984 symposium on Texas mythology and its legacy in the western genre films of Holllywood. Actor Randolph Scott and the movie “Red River” are often mentioned throughout, and there is a debate on whether or not the film Star Wars is in the western tradition. The event was sponsored by the University of Texas’ Department of Radio-Television-Film and Department of American Studies, as well as Cinema Texas, The Austin Chronicle and Laguna Gloria Art Museum.
