Biographical Note

In the 1920s, N. H. Rose began a mail order business out of San Antonio, Texas, selling photographs of the old west. The original N. H. Rose Collection is held by the Western History Collections at the University of Oklahoma at Norman.

Scope and Contents

Early Texas and Old West Photographs, 1868-1930, is composed of 239 photographs arranged in five albums, documenting frontier forts in Texas and other western states, Judge Roy Bean, Texas Rangers, Bandera and surrounding Texas counties, famous outlaws and lawmen, and notable western characters. A majority of the photographs in the collection are photographic copyprints by photographer N. H. Rose.
