Abstract: The creator of the musical transcription album is unknown. The album contains 38 manuscripts of Mexican musical transcriptions (approximately 1844), including 34 musical compositions and 4 opera selections. One piece of note contained within the album is a Mexican war song written for the expedition to Texas in 1844.

Scope and Contents

The Mexican Musical Transcription album is comprised of 38 manuscripts of Mexican musical transcriptions (approximately 1844), including 34 musical compositions, and 4 opera selections. A notable piece within the album is "La Unión Nacional," a patriotic hymn set to music by Dn. Jose Ma. Esteva for Professor Dn. Joaquin Ma. Aguilar. The piece is dedicated to the expedition to Texas, "por ambos al Ejercito Expedicionario sobre Tejas. Veracruz en 1844." Other contents include many songs arranged for piano and vocals, and titles such as "Suspiro de Amor" (on ten illuminated leaves), "Vals, compuesto por S.M. la Reina Gobernadora," "Romance" de Señoritas Velascos y Carballo, and "El Veracruzano."
