Texas Architectural collection

Collection Summary

Creator: Texas Architectural collection
Title: Texas Architectural collection
Dates: 1897-1999 and ongoing
Abstract: The Texas Architectural collection is a grouping of individual project records of Texas properties. Records were acquired over time from various sources, each with their own provenance.
Identification: TAC
Quantity: approximately 43 linear feet of papers, approximately 474 drawings.
Language: Materials are in English.
Repository: Alexander Architectural Archives, University of Texas Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin.

Scope and Content of the collection

The Texas Architectural collection is an artificial collection of architectural records reflecting Texas projects that do not implicitly fall into already established collections in the Alexander Architectural Archives. Although this collection was formally established in 1999, much of the material was previously recorded as part of the Texas Architecture Archive. Early material received by Professor Blake Alexander includes drawings by Larmour and Watson of Austin; prints of the United States Post Office and Courthouse in Austin (1878-81); prints of measured drawings by August W. Harris of early Greek Revival homes in Austin; and prints of the Robertson House in San Antonio by William McKnight Bowman. A digitized representation of a film in the Media Series is available online through Texas ScholarWorks.

Detailed Description of the Collection

The following section contains a detailed listing of the materials in the collection.

Series A: Drawings

Series Abstract
Entries in the Drawings Series are indexed in alphabetical order by Client's name. If the client is not identifiable, the field will remain blank. Entries without client names are sorted by Project Name and listed before those that provide client's names. Furthermore, similar projects are sorted in chronological order by date. Project names are supplied by the cataloger, as title blocks on the drawings prove to be inconsistent and many drawings are not labeled. Project names may also have been adjusted to accommodate alphabetical sorting. Dates are offered if they can be derived from the drawings or gathered from other authoritative sources. The term "drawing" includes both original works (such as pencil on trace paper, or ink on tracing cloth) as well as copies (such as sepia prints, blue line prints, etc.).
