A Guide to the Texas State Capitol Building Records, 1881-1882
There has already been a great deal written about the Capitol and its origins.
Please see Capitol entry, Handbook of Texas Online.
The records are two items. The first is a facsimile of the buildling contract between the Capitol Board and the Capitol Syndicate, who were tasked with constructing the Capitol building.
The second item is a published book detailing the technical specifications that will be included in the construction of the Capitol building. The book also includes a printed, blank version of the building contract as well as a spreadsheet description of the lands reserved for the Capitol Syndicate in lieu of a cash payment.
Most records created by Texas state agencies are not copyrighted and may be freely used in any way. State records also include materials received by, not created by, state agencies. Copyright remains with the creator. The researcher is responsible for complying with U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17 U.S.C.).
