Abstract: Personal papers of a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II, including biographical information, pilot logbooks, photographs, military aviation records, a WASP scrapbook and training manuals pertaining to her training as a civilian pilot for the U.S. Army Air Force (AAF) and service with the Air Transport Command (ATC) at Long Beach Army Air Base, California. Also contains records describing a 1990 trip to Russia to meet WWII Soviet women military pilots and records from post-war reunions of the WASP.

Biographical Note

Aviator and artist, native of San Francisco, California. Served as a member of the Women Airforce Pilots (WASP) of World War II, class 43-4. Robertson was also a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Pen Women, and the Hawaii Watercolor Society, Oahu, Hawaii.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Jeanne Robertson collection consists of 1 cubic foot of materials the bulk of which pertain to her service with the WASP including a scrapbook, 1943-44, with 225 photographs take primarily during training. The oversized materials include Army Air Force training manuals and an original watercolor by Robertson.

5 Pilot qualifications record for Air Transport Command (ATC), photo identification card and pin for civilian employee of the ATC/AAF at Long Beach Army Air Base, 1944.
6 Pilot logbooks (2) 1943-1944 covering Roberts training and service with the WASP.
7 Training records, Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas, 1943-44. Including class worksheets and notes by Robertson and WASP graduation diploma.
8 AAF military orders, 1944-1943, including orders, flight logs, pay schedule, and r esignation in March 1944, to be with her husband.
9 Honorable Discharge and accompanying paper work from the Veterans Administration (VA).
10 WASP classbook, classes 43-1, 43-2, 43-3, entitled The Logbook, a yearbook style book with candid photographs of WASP during training at Houston Municipal Airport and Avenger Field, along with graduation pictures of WASP,1943.

WASP Trip to Russia, 1990In 1990, WASP, Inc., the post-war organization for the Women Airforce Service Pilots, arranged a trip to Russia through the Citizens Ambassador Program to meet their contemporaries, the Soviet women military pilots who flew in World War II, including the fighter pilots and bomber pilots, sometimes called "Night Witches."
