Biographical Sketch

Inspired by Larry Corbin, Jerry Coleman, and Waylon Jennings, the West Texas Walk of Fame was created in 1979 to honor those individuals who have an affiliation to Lubbock and the West Texas area and have devoted much of their lives to the development of and/or gained recognition in the promotion or production of the arts, music, and entertainment. Civic Lubbock, Inc., became custodians of the associated bronze plaques in 1983. In 2011 the Grant Speed statue of Buddy Holly and the plaques were moved to the new Buddy and Maria Elena Holly Plaza at 19th Street and Crickets Avenue. As of 2015 there were 61 inductees; and the 2017 class included J. T. Braxton, Thomas Braxton, and Gospel vocalist Johnny Ray Watson.
