Elizabeth Stafford Hutchinson and her
husband Everett were friends and political associates of Price Daniel, Texas
governor from 1957 to 1963, and his wife Jean Baldwin Daniel. Everett Hutchinson was
Price Daniel's campaign manager for his successful 1952 United States Senate race.
The Elizabeth Stafford Hutchinson papers consist primarily of correspondence,
clippings, and political campaign material dating from 1941 to 1998, with the bulk
dating from 1952 to 1968. The correspondence is primarily to Elizabeth Hutchinson
and pertains mainly to the Daniels' and Hutchinson' personal lives and their social
interactions from the 1950s to the 1990s. The majority of the letters are from Jean
Daniel, but the collection also includes letters from mutual friends of the Daniels
and Hutchinsons and from Elizabeth Hutchinson's parents. The campaign material and
most of the clippings pertain to Price Daniel's U.S. Senate campaign and to other
political candidates and issues from 1952 to 1953. |

Elizabeth Stafford Hutchinson was born in Palestine, Texas, on November 28, 1920, the
daughter of Seymour Seagler Stafford and Annie English. She married Everett
Hutchinson in about 1945 and they had two children, Stafford and Ann. A longtime
Washington, D.C., social figure, Hutchinson attended every presidential inauguration
from 1953 until her death. She was a founding member, trustee, past secretary, and
vice president emerita of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington,
D.C. Elizabeth Hutchinson died on December 25, 2010, and is buried in the Palestine
City Cemetery in Palestine, Texas.
Everett Hutchinson was born in Hempstead, Texas, on January 2, 1915. He received his
bachelor's degree in business administration and his doctor of jurisprudence degree
from the University of Texas and served in the United States Navy during World War
II. He represented House District 20 (Fort Bend and Waller Counties) in the Texas
House of Representatives during the 47th (1941) and 48th (1943) Texas Legislative
session. He was appointed assistant Texas attorney general in 1949. Hutchinson
served as campaign manager for Price Daniel during Daniel's successful race for the
U.S. Senate in 1952, and went on to serve in other governmental positions, including
as a member of the Interstate Commerce Commission from 1955 to 1965, and as deputy
Secretary of Transportation under President Lyndon B. Johnson. He was also president
of the National Association of Motor Bus Owners in the 1960s. Everett Hutchinson
died on April 6, 1994, and is buried in the Palestine City Cemetery in Palestine,
Texas.

Hutchinsons, and speeches from Price Daniel's 1952 U.S. Senate race. Correspondence
from the late 1950s to early 1960s documents some of the Daniel family's day-to-day
life during Price Daniel's governorship and social activities that took place at the
Texas Governor's Mansion in Austin. Other correspondence documents social activities
at the Daniel home in Liberty, Texas.

protected for the life of the author plus 70 years. The term of copyright for
