Abstract: The Robert Demler collection of Southeast Texas images consists of engravings, prints, a lithograph, and newspapers pertaining to some notable historic sites and events in Southeast Texas. The items were collected by the donor and include nineteenth-century copperplate engravings of scenes from the Champ d'Asile settlement of French Napoleonic exiles that was located in present-day Liberty County, Texas; woodcut prints from 1863 editions of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper of the Battle of Sabine Pass, in Jefferson County, Texas; and a bookplate depicting the Spindletop Oil Field in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas in 1902. Dates are 1818-1819, 1860s, and about 1900s.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Robert Demler collection of Southeast Texas images consists of engravings, prints, a lithograph, and newspapers pertaining to some notable historic sites and events in Southeast Texas. The items were collected by the donor and include nineteenth-century copperplate engravings of scenes from the Champ d'Asile settlement of French Napoleonic exiles that was located in present-day Liberty County, Texas; woodcut prints from 1863 editions of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper of the Battle of Sabine Pass, in Jefferson County, Texas; and a bookplate depicting the Spindletop Oil Field in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, in 1902. Dates are 1818-1819, 1860s, and about 1900s.
