Organizational History

Edward Brown Pickett (1877-1951) graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1899. He returned to his hometown of Liberty, Liberty County, Texas, to practice law. His firm, opened with C.F. Stevens, was originally known as Stevens and Pickett, until Pickett established a solo practice in 1912. The firm was first located in the Chambers building on the northwest corner of Travis and Trinity Streets; five years later the firm moved to the Ager Pharmacy building on the northwest corner of Trinity and Main Streets. The Ager Pharmacy building burned down in 1905 but was rebuilt at the same site, and Pickett maintained his office there until 1951.

Pickett's sons, Edward Bradford "Brad" Pickett (1913-2005) and Nolan D. Pickett (1916-1945), joined their father's firm in 1936 and 1939, respectively. The firm became a partnership sometime after 1945.

Following the death of Edward Brown Pickett in 1951, the firm moved to a new location at 524 Travis Street. Brad's sons Edward Bradford "Ed" IV and Carl Nolan joined the firm in 1964 and 1971, respectively, and Carl's son Logan joined in 2006. Logan was serving as Liberty County District Attorney as of 2018. The firm was still operating at the Travis Street address as of November 2018.
