Biographical / Historical

C.A. “Hank” Hudspeth was born in Denton, Texas, graduated from Rice in 1940, served in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War, then completed a law degree at the University of Texas at Austin. Although a practicing attorney in Houston, he found time to teach American government and related courses at Rice, and was instrumental in creating its Department of Political Science. He was elected an alumni governor in 1980 and was appointed a trustee in 1982. He also served as president of the Association of Rice Alumni. He has been a Rice trustee emeritus since 1989.

Scope and Contents

Letters, meeting minutes, notes and news articles relating to the administration of Rice University, 1969-1993. Topics include structure of the Rice Board of Governors, student access to the Board, legal documents concerning the Board’s petitions for changes to the articles of incorporation of the Institute, articles from various sources on education and the role of universities.
