Cecilian Club Scrapbooks
The Cecilian Club, organized in 1913, was named after St. Cecilia, patron saint of music and musicians. According to Club bylaws, the organization's objective was the "systematic study of music to stimulate individual effort and elevate the musical taste of the community." Active members were expected to be musicians, soloists, accompanists, or ensemble performers and met a quota for community performance assignments.
The bulk of the collection consists of scrapbooks compiled by members of the Cecilian Club. They contain yearbooks, newspaper clippings, photographs, programs, and other information about club activities. Some of the documents are from the Texas Federation of Music Clubs, an organization with which the Cecilian Club is affiliated. The collection also contains loose yearbooks (1971-1988) and some Texas Federation of Music Clubs newsletters and programs from the 1980's.
