Abstract: The collection consists of approximately 125 posters for various music venues location in Austin, Texas. The majority of the collection includes posters for Emo's; approximately 112 posters. The posters were created by various artists, with the bulk of the posters being created by Lindsey Kuhn and Frank Kozik. Poster dates span from 1982 to 2002.

Administrative History

Posters were collected and donated by a former Emo's employee, David L. Thomson III. These posters were created for the Emo's music venue, which opened in 1992 and was located in downtown Austin, Texas at 603 Red River. Emo's was known for showcasing punk and alternative bands throughout the 1990s and 2000s. The venue closed in 2011, and was renamed "Emo's East" and relocated to East Austin at 2015 East Riverside Drive later that year.

Scope and Contents

This is a collection of approximately 125 posters for various music venues and festivals located in Austin, Texas. The majority of the collection includes posters created for the Emo's music venue. The posters were created by numerous artists, including Lindsey Kuhn, Frank Kozik and Jason Austin Design, and span from 1982 to 2002. The bulk of the collection (approximately 45 posters) consists of posters by Lindsey Kuhn, a silk-screen poster artist who moved to Austin in 1990. Kuhn is known for his use of color and controversial content. Another notable artist within the collection (approximately 30 posters) is Frank Kozik, a popular poster artist who began his career in Austin, later relocating to San Francisco, California. Kozik's work focuses on pop-art, bright colors, as well as controversial content. The posters within the collection include numerous band names such as The Queers, Butthole Surfers, Jack O'Fire, Supersuckers, Cherubs, The River Boat Gamblers, and Kill Dozer. Other music venues mentioned include Kilamanjaro, The Hole in the Wall, and the Electric Lounge.
