Administrative History

Manda, Texas, in northeastern Travis County, was first settled in the 1880s. By 1900 the population was 40 persons but continued to decline through the years. Children attended school at New Sweden, Carlson, and Willow Ranch until 1947 when the small surrounding school districts of Lund, Carlson, Kimbo and New Sweden were consolidated into the Manda Common School District Number 25 (also known as the Manda Consolidated School District). By 1962 the Manda District had only 12 students. During the 1950s and 1960s, because of financial issues, many of the Travis County common school district began creating their own independent school district to be able to levy taxes separate from county taxes. In 1963 the Manda Common School District closed and the areas were absorbed by the Elgin Independent School District, Manor Independent School District, Pflugerville Independent School District, and Coupland Independent School District.
