Administrative History

Climate Incorporated was an air conditioning installation and service company in Austin, Texas in the mid-twentieth century. The company was founded in about 1948 by Donald F. Schuett (1909-1986), who had previously been a department manager at Calcasieu Lumber Company. It operated variously at 910 Lamar Boulevard, 311 Colorado Street, and 5425A Burnet Road. The business apparently closed in about 1966 as it is not listed in city directories after that point.

Scope and Contents

33 photographs commissioned in 1948 by Climate Incorporated document businesses and houses in Austin, Texas that were clients of the company. The photographs are all 8x10" black-and-white prints by Felder Photo Company. 18 photographs depict commercial businesses including: Fabricon; Firestone Tire Company; Goodfriends; Hemphill's Bookstore; Jalisco restaurant; Lamme's Candies; Merritt, Schaefer & Brown; Renfro's Drugs; Salle Ann Outlet Store; Slaughter's Fine Foods; Smith Brothers car dealership; South Texas Cotton Oil Company; Stewart Title Company; Swearingen-Armstrong used cars; Texas Book Store; Varsity Grill; and two unidentified building. Two photographs depict commercial air conditioning units. Three photographs show houses used as offices medical and dental offices. Ten photographs depict private houses. The photographs primarily picture the front exterior of the buildings. The photographs generally do not include people, though the photo of the Texas Book Store includes a man in front who may be Donald Schuett (identified by the donor). Addresses were written on the backs of the photographs if they could be determined.
