Casey Monahan Papers
An Inventory to the Collection
Casey Monahan is a Dallas native and University of Texas graduate. He has been both a music writer and research analyst for the Austin American-Statesman, and has published over 400 articles and images documenting the music scene in Austin. His publications have appeared in Southwestern Historical Quarterly, Rolling Stone, Music Library Association Notes, The New York Times, Pulse, Texas Monthly, Southwest Spirit, Third Coast, the Dallas Morning News, and the Austin Chronicle.
Monahan also opened the Texas Music Office (TMO) in 1990 and has served as its director to date in 2014. The TMO was the first government office ever created to promote a state's music industry. As the director of the TMO, Monahan, has had a prominent role in the development and supervision of the Texas Music Business Referral Network, and in the publication of the Texas Music Industry Directory, the Texas Music Events Calendar, Texas Recording and Production Guide, Texas Music Education Primer, Texas Music Bibliography, and the Internet Guide to Texas Music.

The collection is organized as a single series consisting of two boxes of Federal Bureau of Investigation reports from 1966-1975. The reports were composed by the federal government with information from their surveillance of the alternative underground Austin publication "The Rag". The reports include photocopies of "The Rag", correspondence between FBI offices, and memo's.
