Administrative History

On April 5, 2001, the Austin City Council passed a resolution (No. 010405-34) creating the Board and Commissions Process Review Task Force to review th organization and operation of the City's board and commission system. The Task Force was made up of members from the city's legal department, city manager's office, auditor's office, city clerk's office and several board and commission members. The Task Force was charged with: conducting a survey of current board and commission member to assess current issues of concern; reviewing the overall organization of the system, including whether mission or jurisdiction of existing boards and commissions overlap; reviewing the application and appointment policies and procedures; reviewing the overall operations of the system; and review the polices governing citizen service on City boards and commissions. A final report was delivered to the City Council in November of 2003 with recommendations, including the role of boards and commissions in city governance, organizational and operational issues, and recruitment and appointment procedures. The report eventually led to an ordinance editing portions of the City Code relating to board and commissions. The Task Force was abolished in 2006 by Ordinance No. 20060622-015.
