Rabbi Simha B. Ben-Zakkai Memorial Endowment

Rabbi Simha B. Ben-Zakkai memorial endowment bookplate This endowment was established in 1992 by the late Nathan I. Snyder, former Hebrew Studies Bibliographer at the University of Texas Libraries, to honor the memory of his former teacher and life-long friend, Rabbi Simha B. Ben-Zakkai of Boston. This endowment supports the purchase of Judaica, Hebraica, and Yiddica materials for the University of Texas Libraries.

Rabbi Simha Ben-Zakkai was born in Poland in 1910 and worked as a teacher until imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp. He survived the war and came to the United States in 1949. He earned a master's degree in Jewish studies from Brandeis University in 1957 and taught in the Dorchester and Mattapan Hebrew School in Boston for many years. Rabbi Ben-Zakkai died in February 1990.
