Gertrude Briggs Reinert papers, 1911, 1943-1962
Gertrude Briggs (1888-1960) married Anton N. "Bob" Reinert (1890-1969) in Rock Island, Illinois in 1911. The couple moved to Memphis, Tennessee; Fort Worth, Texas; and finally Austin, Texas. Gertrude Briggs Reinert cared for the family's five children while her husband managed Sheftal's, an Austin jewelry store.
During this time, Gertrude Reinert wrote to her sister Caroline (Carrie) Briggs, in Rock Island describing life in Austin's Tarrytown neighborhood.
The Gertrude Briggs Reinert papers consist of handwritten letters from Reinert to her sister, Carrie Briggs, in Rock Island, Illinois. The letters are written from Austin, Texas, and describe middle-class life in the city. Letters also include Carrie Briggs' notes on outer envelopes.
