A Guide to the Cal Campbell World War I and World War II Collection, 1918-1920, 1942-1945
Historical NoteDonated by Cal Campbell of Fort Worth, this collection contains letters received by family members immediately following World War I (1918-1920) and during World War II (1942-1945). Martha Anderson, Campbell’s aunt, served as a pen pal to several soldiers during WWI and in the years immediately following while they were still stationed abroad. Additional letters dating from World War II were written by students of I. E. McWhiter, Campbell’s uncle, who taught classes at First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsCorrespondence, clippings, photos, pamphlets and other printed ephemera, artifacts, and DVDs comprise the Cal Campbell WWI and WWII Collection. The bulk of the collection is composed of letters and postcards dating from the post-World War I (1918-1920) with additional correspondence dating from World War II (1942-1945). All letters contain largely personal information, but with some references to military duty. Printed ephemera consists of family ration books, rent control forms, and pamphlets from WWII, DVDs of WWII and Vietnam veterans, while artifacts include military insignia patches, and pennants from Camp Merritt, NJ.
