Born in Madison County, Virginia, A. S. Roberts (b. 1844) moved with his family to Eufaula, Alabama in 1849. At the age of sixteen, Roberts moved to Texas, where he enlisted as a soldier and courier in the Company B of the 4th Texas Infantry Regiment in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
Composed of a typescript, the A. S. Roberts Reminiscences, undated, chronicles Roberts’ experiences during the Civil War. The reminiscences discuss Roberts’ childhood and his activities as a soldier and courier in Company B of the 4th Texas Infantry Regiment.
