Biographical Note

Farmer Daniel Hartzo moved from South Carolina to Texas before 1841, settling in northern Texas. He owned the land grant on which the town of Hartzo (probably named for Daniel or his family) is now located in northeastern Marion County.

Scope and Contents

A leather-bound handwritten journal composes the Daniel Hartzo Diary, 1841-1846. Harzo's brief entries describe his daily agricultural, commercial, and social activities. An original 1841 survey for Mary Burton of 960 acres of land in Red River County, signed by Fannin County Deputy Surveyor Joel C. Fuller, is also included.
