Biographical SketchMary Dunn of Lubbock, Texas, was a music educator, secretary of South Plains Music Assoociation, president of Texas Music Teachers Association, and chairman of the Applied Music Division of the Texas Department of Education. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe Mary Dunn Papers, 1925-1946, concern her career, the early history of music in Texas, and Dunn's efforts to obtain accreditation in the state school system for private music instruction. The collection also documents Dunn’s involvement with the South Plains Music Association, the Texas Music Teachers Association, the Applied Music Division of Texas Department of Education, Texas State Music Festivals, Texas Federation of Music Clubs, and Texas Federation of Women's Clubs. Included in the papers is correspondence, separated into regions of Texas; school, business, and personal correspondence; telegrams; and postcards. Additionally, papers include music clubs and music associations materials; financial papers including ledger, checkbook stubs, and bank statements; notebooks; newspaper clippings; scrapbooks; memoranda; historical notes; and music tests.
