Creator Sketch:

Arthur Rothstein (1915-1985) was LOOK’s technical director for photography from 1947 to 1971. He gained early fame as a member of the Farm Security Administration team of photographers in the 1930s. This image was a product of 13 years of research and development by Rothstein and Marvin Whitmore, general manager of LOOK.

Scope and Contents:

This photographic reproduction is called a parallax panoramagram—the first three-dimensional photograph ever produced in mass quantities. It appears to have been an insert in the magazine. The subject is a bust of Thomas Edison surrounded by five of his inventions: the electric lamp, the stock sticker, the home motion picture projector, the phonograph, and the fluoroscope.
