Historical Note

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 278 is a labor union of workers in the electrical industry. It was chartered on April 24, 1926 in Corpus Christi, Texas and its first working agreement was signed on May 1, 1928.

Scope and Contents

Records are comprised of 40 folders of correspondence, labor agreements, printed material, bills, rulings, amendments, and wage scale, grievance, and vacation studies. Records also include 5 volumes of minutes and two photographs. Correspondence and labor agreements pertain mainly to individual jobs, plants, negotiations, and contracts. Minutes record and describe the proceedings of meetings held by Local 278 from 1939-1954 and the proceedings of meetings held by the Executive Board from 1940-1952. Copies of bills, rulings, and amendments pertain to labor legislation. Photographs are group photos of IBEW delegates. One photograph contains names, cities of residence, and local numbers written on reverse.
