Margaret Ferris Poindexter Diary:
Margaret Poindexter was born Clara Margaret Ferris to Raymond and Eula McKinney Ferris on January 13, 1907, in Van Alstyne, Texas. In 1924, Poindexter traveled across the country with her aunt and uncle. Upon returning to Texas, she attended North Dallas High School where she resided much of her life. She married Gilbert Parker Poindexter with whom she resided in Dallas for much of their married life. Born in 1906, Gilbert Poindexter died on April 6, 1974. Margaret Poindexter died in San Antonio on March 21, 1979.
The Margaret Poindexter Ferris diary is comprised of one volume that contains entries spanning fifty years of her life, from 1924-1974. She documents her visits to St. Louis, Indianapolis, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and New York. In her diary she talks about dating, her marriage to Gilbert Poindexter, the death of her daughter Pauline at St. Paul's Sanitarium in 1929, and the birth of her second child Virginia. Also included are several newspaper clippings tucked into the pages of the diary. By 1927, the diary entries are less frequent, eventually turning into annual entries. The final diary entry takes place on January 6, 1974.
