Scope and Contents

The J.M. Henson letter to Samuel Tate is comprised of one piece of correspondence and a typed transcription of the letter. In this letter dated January 26, 1856, J.M. Henson reports to Samuel Tate that the "country is quiet as regards Indian depredations." He makes reference to James Hughes Callahan's expedition into Texas and invasion of Native American land, and how it "opened the eyes of Indians and Mexicans that Texas Frontiersman would not be trifled with longer." He closes his letter talking about debts to be collected and the harsh winter cold happening in Texas.
