Biographical Sketch

James M. Aton earned a BA in English from Spring Hill College (1971), an MA in English from University of Kentucky (1977), and a PhD in American Literature from Ohio University (1981). He has taught courses in writing, mythology, American Studies, and Continental European Literature at Southern Utah University since 1980, where he is Professor of English Emeritus. Aton has been a Visiting Fulbright Scholar in American Studies in Indonesia and China. His work as appeared in The Georgia Review, Utah Historical Quarterly, Western American Literature, South Dakota Review, and Southwest Art. His monographs have been finalists for the Utah Book Award and have won the Norris and Carol Hundley Award, Evans Handcart Award, 15 Bytes Book Award for Art, and the Don D. and Catherine S. Fowler Prize.

The collection is open for research.

The SWC/SCL AV Department has created user access copies for the audio recordings in this collection. The original items are not available for playback.

Files from the thumb drive have been printed. The thumb drive is not available for patron use.

Some archival collections may be housed in storage outside of the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library building. Requests to retrieve such materials may take up to 10 business days to complete. Please contact our Reference Department to arrange retrieval.

Audio, video, and film recordings may not be immediately accessible due to format, condition, or copyright status. All items must be digitized prior to patron use. Because not all collections materials have been digitized, please contact the Reference Archivist at least 10 days prior to arrival in order to coordinate digitization. Though we can digitize much of our holdings within two weeks, some media may be fragile and require specialized digitization outsourcing, which can take up to three months for completion.
