Chris Oglesby grew up in Lubbock, where his father was a coach and his mother was a college
English professor. While earning his bachelor's degree and doctorate of jurisprudence from
Texas Tech University he immersed himself in Lubbock's musical nightlife. However, it took
moving to Austin in 1991 to learn just how greatly artists from his home town had affected
the music and art scenes of Texas and the world beyond.
In 1998, Chris began interviewing artists and collecting archival articles and other
information to chronicle the amazing stories about talented artists and musicians hailing
from Lubbock and the surrounding region. The work was published in 2006 by University of
Texas Press as Fire in the Water, Earth in the Sky and
subsequently released in paperback as well. In 2003 Oglesby also participarted in the making
of the Amy Maner-George Sledge documentary film Lubbock
Lights.
This collection contains biographies and transcripts of interviews with many prominent
musicians. Items applicable to more than one category have been copied and placed in both
files. For example, many of the biographical files contain interviews which are also
available as transcripts and sound files and may be listened to online. The collection is in
good condition and is part of the Crossroads of Music archive.
