The Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners was established by
the 62nd Legislature during regular session through Senate Bill 344 in 1971.
This board is obligated to enforce the Texas Physical Therapy Practice Act
(TPTPA) which was enacted to protect the citizens of Texas from unqualified
persons practicing physical therapy. The board is responsible for examining and
licensing only those physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who
meet the standards set forth in the Act. The board conducts investigations of
all charges and complaints involving possible illegal practices or alleged
violations of the TPTPA. It has the power to revoke or suspend licenses and to
reprimand or place on probation a licensee for violation of the TPTPA or of
rules adopted by the board.
The policymaking body of the agency is a nine-member board, appointed
by the governor with the concurrence of the Senate for overlapping six-year
terms. Six members must be licensed physical therapists and three members,
subject to certain restrictions, must be members of the general public. Various
committees within the board are appointed and disbanded by the chairperson
according to need.

reviewed to delineate series, to confirm the accuracy of contents lists, to
provide an estimate of dates covered, and to determine record types.
